Eng./ Abdelfattah Farahat, GASTEC’s chairman, stated in a phone call that vehicle conversion to run by CNG takes from 2 to 4 hours at conversion center, and the customer is free to convert between CNG and gasoline system, as vehicle conversion process is done through incorporating gas parts without any modification in the basic fuel cycle which is petrol circuit, allowing the customer to operate vehicle by bifuel (natural gas / gasoline) and changing between the two systems through switch installed in the vehicles’ dashboard, and no amendment or change occur in any part of the engine during conversion process.
He indicated that conversion cost ranges from L.E. 5000 for carburetor vehicles and to about L.E. 7500 for electronic injection vehicles, and the cost varies according to conversion kit type and number of cylinders installed in vehicle, considering that the actual cost of vehicle conversion is much more than that and is borne by Ministry of Petroleum aiming at encouraging citizens to convert their vehicles to run by CNG.

Adding that natural gas is saving and economical gas and if citizen uses natural gas, can achieve saving reaching to L.E. 852 monthly with average daily consumption of 10 litres of gasoline “80” whereas saving rate reaching to about L.E. 1200 monthly in case of using gasoline “92”, hence customer can reimburse conversion cost from the saving amount when using CNG during period of 3 to 6 months at the average consumption rate, taking into consideration that the higher daily consumption rate of petrol, the shorter reimbursement period.
GASTEC’s chairman, explained that customers are provided with facilities to pay conversion value through several installment systems given that contracting procedures are simple for example; copy of ID card, vehicle’s license and a recent “electricity – gas – water” receipt, as well as granting immediate gifts to customers upon cash payment.
